All citizens are threatened by violence


The president, Shimon Peres warned of a recent increase in violence in Israeli society, saying that the fight against these phenomena must take precedence.


"All citizens are threatened by increased interpersonal violence," Peres said at the inauguration ceremony of the  25 new judges of the courts, adding "we must make the fight against violence our highest priority."


"We recently experienced a sharp increase in violent behavior:  passion crimes  in the families, parents who make the barbaric murders of their children, the murders of teenagers, hate-related murders, thefts against the elderly homeless, the human trafficking, and even threats against the police and members of the judicial system. "


"Criminals are only getting younger, and there is no end in sight for this wave of violence."


"Judges are our shield against evil tendencies, either hidden in a bottle of vodka, or the blade of a knife ...."
